Week 34 Hegsted's Mission

12-March-2023-Sunday What a great day.  Started out rough with daylight savings time beginning.  I am such a wimp, but I dislike the time change.  As my grandma used to say, it is really 6:10 instead of 7:10 am.  We were off by 8:30 and lacked traffic both ways so we arrived early for church and at the site.  I felt like I played the organ well and believe Dede did well with the primary although she said the best singer was not there.  Church started out with fewer than normal people, but it filled in well as the meeting progressed.  Note, we did not have anyone with a key when we arrived so we sat in the warm sunlight for a few minutes.  It was so pleasant. When we arrived at the site, President Ewer was doing a tour for a young couple. We spoke with him for a few minutes and probably sat for 5 minutes when we started getting people in.  They were spread out so we stayed busy for 3.5 hours.  We have not experienced that sin...

Week 33 Hegsted Mission

5-March-2023-Sunday After our large storm of yesterday, today was pleasant with sunshine.  I do not see another storm until a week passes.  I would not be surprised if winter is finally releasing its icy grip on Vermont and that we will soon be in mud season.  As I mentioned before, VT has many, many dirt roads.  They are not gravel roads like I am used to in Idaho and so when spring comes, the locals call it mud season as these roads become very hard to navigate.  Because we had a mild winter, we are partially prepared for such roads from our travel to covered bridges, but I am sure it will get worse. No issues traveling to and from Rutland.  I played well enough, but really thought my SS lesson went well.  We had several visiting families and so class was large, but we had a great discussion including some of the visitors. As we drove by Pico ski resort, it was obviously smashed with skiers.  Thus Dede requested we drive to the Kill...

Week 32 Hegsted Mission

26-February-2023-Sunday On a day which was supposed to have less than an inch of snow we had 2 or 3 inches.  Not significant if one is not driving home in it from Rutland turning our 60 minute trip into a 80 minute trip due to being caught behind a snow plow for 20 minutes.  Oh well.  Organ went better today.  It helps that I was more comfortable with the hymns chosen.  Dede was alone in the primary, so she taught the littles in the first 30 minutes and then when the bigs came in we left as the chorister and pianist had singing time.  Lucky or we would have been late getting back to the site. It was beautiful at the site.  We shoveled and raked snow and talked to Anna on the phone as she made plans to come here in May.  However we did not have visitors.  Shortly before 5 pm, President Ewer came over and we had a delightful visit for 40 minutes covering so many topics.  He is such a great man.  It must be much harder keeping s...
